A MAN IN his 20s who was arrested in connection with the fatal house fire in Edenderry that killed Mary Holt and her grand-nephew, Tadhg Farrell, has been released without charge.

He was remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance which is scheduled for 6 May.

During the brief hearing, the defendant’s legal representative also made a request to the judge for an anonymity order to be granted to the defendant’s legal team.

She said they were a local legal team and they would have “concerns” if they were named in relation to what she described as a “very contentious, dangerous, local feud”.

She also noted that there was no objection from the State’s representatives to the request.

Judge Andrew Cody said he had not come across such an application before and refused to grant the order.

Gardaí made several arrests in relation to the case this week.

The house fire happened on 6 December in Castleview Park in Edenderry. A petrol bomb was thrown through the front window of the house.

The bodies of Tadgh Farrell (4) and Mary Holt (60) were discovered in the front room of the property.
